A rapid, qualitative method for estimating the rate and distance of Mn movement from fertilizer granules in soil is presented. A filter paper saturated with 5 N HNO 3 is pressed on the soil surface and soluble soil Mn absorbed by the filter paper is then oxidized to permanganate by NaBiO 3 .
