Nickel‐barium exchange selectivity coefficients were determined for a montmorillonite clay by saturating 0.5‐g samples with 0.04 N serial concentrations of NiCl 2 and BaCl 2 . The values for the reaction BaZ + Ni 2+ ⇄ Niz + Ba 2+ ranged from 0.65 to 0.78, indicating a preferential adsorption of barium.
