Optical, X‐ray diffraction, infrared absorption, and differential thermal analysis data are presented for the salts K 3 Al 5 H 6 (PO 4 ) 8 ·18H 2 O, (NH 4 ) 3 Al 5 H 6 (PO 4 ) 3 ·18H 2 O, (NH 4 ) 2 AlH(PO 4 ) 2 ·4H 2 O, NH 4 AlPO 4 OH·2H 2 O, and NH 4 AlPO 4 OH·3H 2 O. Where the particle size is too small for determination of optical characteristics, a combination of X‐ray diffraction and infrared absorption methods is the most satisfactory means of identification of these compounds. Differential thermal analysis is unsuitable for the ammonium salts.
