Micromorphologic investigation of Histosols requires use of thin sections prepared in such a way as to minimize shrinkage and disruption of natural soil fabric. A method which meets these requirements is described. Moist samples are impregnated with Carbowax 6,000, mounted with Castoglas, and ground and polished by special techniques. Little shrinkage or destruction of soil fabric occurred in thin sections prepared by this method from a variety of organic soil materials.
