This study summarizes the first soil survey on sugar estates in the Dominican Republic. The soils are characterized and classified. Illustrations of soil profiles, and diagrams showing their topographic occurrence are included. A rather close relationship was found between soil characteristics and root growth of cane. Study of root growth in relation to soil properties was helpful in evaluating the agriculture potentialities of the various soils.
