The SiOo/Alg0 3 o f th e colloida l fraction s o f th e Oktibbeha , Eutaw , an d Lufki n clay s o f th e Blac k Bel t ar e large r tha n thos e o f soil s hav in g matur e profiles . Fro m a comparison , o n th e basi s o f col loida l cla y content , o f th e bas e exchang e ca pacitie s o f soil s o f th e Ceci l serie s t o thos e of th e Norfol k an d Greenvill e serie s i t woul d see m tha t th e soil s o f th e Ceci l serie s hav e undergon e a furthe r weatherin g effec t tha t ha s resulte d i n a breakin g dow n o f thei r bas e ex chang e comple x an d a partia l destructio n o f thei r capacit y fo r bas e exchange . I t i s als o observe d tha t thos e soil s i n whose profile s re d subsoil s hav e bee n devel oped als o hav e a relativel y hig h percentag e calciu m saturatio n o f th e bas e exchang e capacity .
