[Extract] Investment in agricultural research has consistently delivered high rates of return in terms of increasing productivity, improving nutrition, and reducing poverty. This is the mandated aim of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). A route therefore exists through agricultural research to boost food resources, improve livelihoods, enhance quality of life, and underpin the stability of societies in the developing world. Supporting quality and relevant agricultural research must be a priority for all development cooperation and stability and security agendas.
