Knowledge of inheritance of resistance to major diseases and pests is important to plant breeders. This study was conducted to determine the inheritance of resistance to the Russian wheat aphid (RWA), Diuraphis noxia (Mordvilko), in three winter triticale (× Triticosecale Wittmack) lines that have been found to be outstanding sources of RWA resistance. The three resistant lines (PI 386148, PI 386149, and PI 386156) were intercrossed and crossed with three susceptible triticale cultivars (TX33000, NE83T12, and Lasko). The parents, F 1 , F 2 , and backcross populations were artificially infested with RWA in greenhouse tests. The data indicate that resistance to RWA is controlled by a single dominant gene in each line. The lack of segregation for susceptibility in F 2 progenies from the resistant × resistant crosses indicates a high probability that the resistance genes in these lines are at a common locus. Gene symbols for these resistance genes will be assigned when the allelic relationships with other RWA resistance genes identified in wheat and triticale are determined.
