Additional resistance to soybean cyst nematode (SCN), Heterodera g1ycines Ichinohe, has been identified by screening the USDA soybean, Glycine max (L.) Men., collection. Approximately 600 plant introductions in Maturity Groups V through X have been added to the collection since Anand and Gallo screened the germplasm for SCN Race 3 resistance in 1984. The new additions were evaluated for resistance to SCN Races 3, 5, and 14 in the greenhouse by inoculation with approximately 1000 SCN eggs and enumeration of the cysts on the roots and in the soil at 30 d after planting. The PI 424137B was moderately resistant to the three races having 17 to 31% as many cysts as the susceptible check ‘Lee’. Plant Introduction 399061, Pl 424595, and PI 438342 were highly resistant to Race 5 but were susceptible to Races 3 and 14. This is the first time soybean lines have been identified as susceptible to Race 3 and highly resistant to another SCN race.
