Inbred lines ICML1 and ICML2 have the parentage J606-2 X J703-1, while ICML3 and ICML4 were derived from J2238 X J2210-2, all parents originating from India. The lines were selected for stable resistance to Claviceps fusiformis by the pedigree method. In international trials at 8-12 sites in India and West Africa over 2-4 years, the lines averaged 1-3% infection by C. fusiformis, vs. 68% in susceptible controls. At ICRISAT, the lines have also shown resistance to Sclerospora graminicola and Tolyposporium penicillaria
