ICML11 was derived through 5 generations of selfing and ear-to-row selection from accession IP2696 (from Chad). It is resistant (hypersensitive) to Puccinia penniseti [P. substriata var. penicillariae], resistance being controlled by a single dominant gene (designated Rpp1). ICML11 remained free from infection by P. penniseti in trials at 5 sites in India in 1984. It is also resistant to Sclerospora graminicola
