Genetic investigations of Upland cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L., have established that the genes controlling the expression of nectariless ( ne 1 , ne 2 ), glandless ( gl 2 , gl 3 ), and withering bract ( bw 1 , bw 2 ) are at duplicate loci in homeologous chromosomes. Three‐point linkage tests in these homeologous linkage groups indicate that the gene order was probably Gl 2 ‐ Bw 1 ‐ Ne 1 in the A genome and Bw 2 ‐ Gl 3 ‐ Ne 2 in the D genome. However, recombination percentages were not significantly different between Bw 1 ‐ Ne 1 and Gl 2 ‐Ne 1 in the A genome, and between Bw 2 ‐ Ne 2 in the D genome.
