Plantlets were regenerated through organogenesis from the callus cultures of 10 agronomically superior genotypes of Indiangrass ( Sorghastrum nutans L Nash). Callus was first initiated from segments of young inflorescences explanted on RM medium supplemented with hormonal combinations of 5 or 10 mg 2,4‐D and 0 or 0.2 mg kinetin/liter. Plantlets were then induced from the calluses by subculturing on RM medium with kinetin omitted and 2,4‐D reduced below 1 mg/liter. Of the media tested, callus grew best on RM medium supplemented with 5 mg 2,4‐D and 0.2 mg kinetin/liter. Differential responses to the morphogenetic induction medium were noted among the 10 genotypes tested.
