Rice ( Oryza sativa L.) anthers of various developmental stages were cultured on medium with 3%, 6%, and 9% sucrose to test the effects of sucrose concentration on plant production. It was found that high sucrose concentrations in the callus‐induction medium promoted callus formation and subsequent organogenesis. However, callus initiated on the 9% sucrose medium differentiated more albino plants than callus from the medium with lower sucrose concentrations.
