Germination and emergence of wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.) were shown to be reduced following storage on particleboard. The germination reducing agent is suspected to be free formaldehyde, which is released from the bonding resin during production and usage. Seed to be stored on particleboard shelving should be stored in glass vials or tins.
