Six ethyl methanesulfonate‐induced chlorophyll‐deficient mutants of Melilotus alba Desr. were studied. Each of the mutants behaved as a monogenic recessive. Complementation analysis revealed that the genes from five of the mutants were nonallelic to each other and to the previously reported mutants ch 4 , ch 5 , ch 6 , and ch 7 . Proposed symbols for the five genes are ch 8 , ch 9 , ch 10 , ch 11 , and ch 12 . No linkage was detected between ch 5 and ch 7 , ch 7 and M f (multifoliolate leaf), ch 8 and ch 4 , ch 8 and ch 5 , ch 8 and ch 6 , and ch 8 and ch 7 .
