Three kenaf ( Hibiscus cannabinus L.) breeding lines were compared with the variety ‘Everglades 71’ in a field infested with the root‐knot nematode. Meloidogyne javanica (Treub, 1885) Chitwood, 1949a. All entries had previously shown some resistance to three Meloidogyne species in greenhouse tests.; A single entry, j‐1‐113‐1, showed effective field resistance, as indicated by root‐gall ratings and top growth.
