A seed divider was constructed for mechanized plot planting. It does not require a source of power and can be used effectively when planting on uneven terrain. The divider was built from a modified Boerner sampler. Seed for each row of a plot is sampled from the entire perimeter of the sampler so that the divider works effectively when it is level or on an angle. The divider can be used without stopping between plots. As one plot is planted, the seed for the next plot is poured into the seed divider. The seed passes by gravity through the divider to funnels on planting units where it is held until the funnels are trapped. The divider has been tested with soybeans ( Glycine sp.), wheat ( Triticum sp.), and barley ( Hordeum sp.).
