A paired comparison of maternal‐line selection versus mass selection for seedset rating and seed weight concurrently was made in Russian wildrye ( Elymus junceus Fisch.). Maternal‐line selection (essentially mass selection with pollination among selected plants) was superior to mass selection in increasing seedset rating and seed weight. The net result was greatly increased seed yield.
