Inheritance of heading date, plant height, and kernel weight was studied in two crosses of spring wheats ( Triticum aestivum L .) involving three cultivars, ‘Timgalen,’ ‘Sonora 64A,’ and ‘Eagle.’ Means and variances were estimated for six populations: P 1 , P 2 , F 1 , F 2 , and the two first backcrosses, B 1 and B 2 . Estimates of heritability and genetic advance indicated that considerable progress could be made by applying selection pressures for the three characters. Gene action appeared to be primarily additive in the expression of these characters.
