The inheritance of flowering time was studied in five crosses of flax, Linum usitatissimum L. Genotype‐environment interaction, such that early or late‐flowering gentotypes were more variable than intermediate‐flowering genotypes, was important in determining flowering time. The genetic control of flowering time proved to be multigenic with epistasis playing an important part.
