A previously unreported major dominant gene segregated for resistance to races T‐1, T‐15, T‐16, and L‐8 of common bunt ( Tilletia caries and T. foetida ) in a wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.) cross of ‘Yayla 305’, P.I. 178210 (resistant) × ‘Elgin’ (susceptible). The gene, designated Bt8, determines resistance to all races of common bunt known to be present in the Pacific Northwest states.
