Partially male sterile stocks possessing different degrees of seed set ranging from 5 to 65% have been developed in wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.). The degree of male sterility in these stocks is known to depend upon the cumulative effect of three recessive genes. It is proposed to use the stock with 5% seed set as the female for hybrid seed production. This stock can be maintained in isolation and its use would eliminate the necessity of restorer genes in pollinator lines.
