Reciprocal grafts were made between pea aphid‐resistant and susceptible alfalfa clones. A median longitudinal slit about 2 cm long was made on the stock into which a wedge‐shaped scion was inserted. Coarse cotton thread was tied around the grafted parts to hold them together firmly. Masking tape was wrapped around the graft to minimize moisture loss from the cut surfaces. All the 112 grafting attempts were successful.
