The technique to determine percent dry matter disappearance (DMD) with a solution of 0.2% pepsin 0.075 N HCI was simplified by eliminating the pepsindigestion apparatus and by using paper in place of glass filters. These changes produced lower DMD values for all forages tested, but with suitable changes in the equation for calculating the Nutritive Value Index, the final results were identical.
