Two sugarcane clones were treated with a range of doses of gamma rays. After one propagation, a number of subclones differed from untreated controls in their flowering propensity. Several subclones showed a high degree of uniformity. The recovery of nonflowering mutants from irradiated material of heavy flowering, but otherwise good sugarcane varieties may therefore be easy, enabling this ceiling on production to be removed.
