The germination of Kentucky bluegrass pollen, Poa pratensis L., ‘Newport’, was studied in artificial cultures containing variable concentrations of sucrose, calcium nitrate and boric acid. The germinations were made in an incubator in the dark at 21 ± 1 C. Good germination and growth were obtained with 13% sucrose, 0.75% agar agar, and 10 ppm of calcium nitrate and 5 ppm of boric acid.
