A collection of 558 barleys ( Hordeum vulgare L. emend. Lam) from Ethiopia and five from Sudan were evaluated for BYDV resistance. As found in previous studies, some Ethiopian barleys have high levels of resistance; 72 or 13% of the entries tested were resistant. Two resistant introductions were from Sudan, bin: since the center of concentration for resistance is in Ethiopia, it is likely that these introductions also have Ethiopian ancestry.
