Dominant yellow‐leaved marker smooth bromegrass, Bromus inermis Leyss., plants were mixed with normal green‐leaved plants in small polycross plantings. Patterns of pollination could be traced by growing progenies of green plains and noting leaf color. There was marked variation among green plants in degree of crossing with adjacent yellow plants. No instances of complete incompatibility were found but some green clones showed two to three times as much crossing with the yellow markers as did other green clones. Ten replications of clones in polycrosses gave similar results to 20 replications. Contiguity of plants and correspondence of flowering were important factors determining the degree of intercrossing.
