Results of a three‐year study show no difference in forage production of F 1 hybrid sudangrasses produced from A lines differing only in recessive factors for dwarfness. Two nearly isogenic lines, with factors regulating heights of 1.2 m and 3.6 m, produced forage yields of 6103 and 6390 kg of dry matter per ha, respectively. The 1.2 m lines contained 65% leaves; the 3.6 m lines, 56% leaves. The F 1 hybrids averaged 24% more total forage than that of the parental mean.
