Linkage Tests of Mendelian Male Sterility and Other Genetic Characters in Sugarbeets, Beta vulgaris L. 1

Linkage tests involving nine genetic factors in Beta vulgaris L. were conducted in the greenhouse. The genetic male sterile ( a 1 ) gene was inherited independently from eight other factors. Linkage between red hypocotyl color ( R ) and trout leaf ( Tr ) and lack of association of monogerm ( m ) and russet root ( ru ) with the Y‐R‐B linkage group, as noted by other research workers, was confirmed. The dwarf factor ( d ) and lutescens ( lu 2 ) appeared to be independent of the Y‐R‐B group. The ru and lu 2 characters are not associated with m . A summary table of linkage groups in sugarbeets and linkage maps for two of these groups are presented.
