The ancestry of ‘Norin 10’ wheat is based on ‘Daruma,’ a native Japanese short‐straw variety, crossed with one soft and one hard wheat variety from the United States. The use of Norin 10 to breed high yielding, fertilizer responsive varieties and the resultant international benefits are outlined.
