A method is described for evaluating the cold water tolerance of rice ( Oryza sativa L.) varieties in the seedling stage. The seedlings are grown on fertilized soil, submerged in about 15 cm of water at 15.5 ± 1 C for 26 days. The arrangement of the varieties within replications and the replications within the water bath was based on results from a uniformity trial. Seedling height is the criterion of cold water tolerance.
