The presence of hydrogen cyanide was determined in 60 entries of Lotus representing 28 species. Twelve entries were cyanogenetic, 40 were acyanogenetic, and 8 contained both cyanogenetic and acyanogenetic types. The planning of species‐hybridization studies in Lotus may be facilitated by utilizing cyanogenesis as a genetic marker.
