Genetic collections qualify for storage at the National Seed Storage Laboratory. Advantages in using this facility are: ( 1 ) collections are maintained intact with continuing high viability; ( 2 ) seed distribution to interested scientists is made on request; ( 3 ) the depositor is kept informed as to the viability of collections; and ( 4 ) the Laboratory assumes the responsibility through contract arrangements for reincreases in case viabilities decline.
