Six alfalfa clones which differed for uterotrophic activity based on assays in 6 different years were selected for this study. All possible combinations of crosses were made between these clones, and their uterotrophic activity assayed with castrated female mice. The crosses were significantly different in three harvests taken over 2 years. A combining ability analysis showed that only general combining ability was significant in the last two harvests; however, only specific combining ability was significant in the first harvest. Percent stem was measured in the first two harvests and was negatively correlated with uterotrophic activity. A visual rating of foliar disease was positively correlated with uterotrophic activity in the last harvest; however, there were few visual symptoms of foliar diseases in the first two harvests.
