Water samples collected from undisturbed, uncultivated, forested soils of the Atlantic Coastal Plain in Wilson County, North Carolina, were analyzed for content and composition of natural organic substances. Sugars, organic acids, and polyphenols were detected. These results should be useful “baseline data” for comparison with water in and from soils to which agricultural chemicals and organic wastes have been added.
