The Crop Science Society of America is seeking nominations for the CSSA editor-in-chief. This position is voluntary, and candidates are expected to be visionary, as our publications continue to experience rapid changes in scientific content delivery as well as publishing models. There is fierce competition for authors and readers from other journals. Prior editorial experience with ASA-CSSA-SSSA publications or those having similar subject matter / structure is expected. The position is appointed by the CSSA president upon confirmation by the CSSA board of directors. The position carries a great deal of responsibility as well as personal satisfaction. Interested persons may nominate themselves or be nominated by an active member of CSSA. Duties of the editor-in-chief include, but are not limited to: Providing leadership for the Society's publications and corresponding editors. Considering broad questions of editorial practices that promote the dissemination of exceptionally high quality scientific knowledge and the uniformity of format, style, and procedures in conjunction with the Society's board of directors, Executive Committee, and as needed with the Society's Budget and Finance Committee. Appointing feasibility and editorial committees for the evaluation and preparation of Society books, special publications, and other miscellaneous publications. On behalf of the Society's president and ratified by its board of directors, appointing the editor of the Society's journals following a call for nominees. On behalf of the Society's president, appointing the technical editors for the Society's journals. Serving as a member of the editorial boards of the Society's journals. Candidates are asked to submit (i) a curriculum vita including a list of previous editorial experience and (ii) a vision statement for the Society's publications (not exceeding one page). The official starting date for the CSSA editor-in-chief appointment is January 1, 2016. Candidates are appointed to three-year terms, with eligibility for a second three-year term but not a third term without an intervening three-year period. It is anticipated that there will be interaction between the incoming CSSA editor-in-chief, the outgoing editor-in-chief, and society staff throughout the transition period leading up to the January 1, 2016 start date.
