Utilization of liquid wastes as fertilizers is sometimes limited by the large volumes (due to low N concentrations), which must be applied to provide optimum N rates for crops. A device (ammoniator) is described which facilitates the enrichment of waste slurries with anhydrous ammonia (or other concentrated liquid N sources) to improve the value of the wastes as nutrient sources for crop production. The ammoniator is inexpensive to construct, simple and safe to operate with ordinary precautions for NH 3 , use, and efficient in increasing the plant‐available N concentration in waste slurries two‐ to three‐fold. The device is adaptable for use in liquid manure tanker wagons or in pits and holding tanks.
