Most leaf impression methods described in the literature are time‐consuming and unsatisfactory for use on ribbed or pubescent grass leaves. We have developed a rapid method to make leaf impressions in grasses. A vinyl solution is applied to the leaf surface with a camel‐hair brush and allowed to dry. A strip of transparent tape with adversive on both sides is attached to a microscope slide. The slide is applied to the leaf with the tape in contact with the vinyl film. The other leaf surface is rubbed to insure good contact between the tape and vinyl. The impression is then slowly lifted off with the slide. After a cover slip is applied, the impression can be viewed immediately or stored for an extended period of time.
