The compound, 2‐chloroethylphosphonic acid (formerly referred to as 2‐chloroethanephosphonic acid), sprayed on plants of two normal‐monoecious castor ( Ricinus communis L.) varieties significantly increased node number to first raceme and significantly reduced seed yield and bushel weight. Mature plant height, weight per 100 seeds, and oil percentage were not significantly affected. No apparent increase in number of pistillate flowers on either variety was noted.
