A tool‐bar‐mounted four‐row plot planter, capable of precision‐planting many field crop and vegetable seeds, was designed and assembled. Four unit planters equipped with chisel‐pointed openers, covering knives, and soil press wheels were fitted with inclined plate boxes, modified with hand cranks and spring clutches for rapid emptying of remnant seed. Two gauge wheels, seats, footrests, racks for seed boxes, and a 3‐point tool carrier were also attached to the tool bar. The plot planter, operated by two men plus a tractor driver, can be quickly attached to any tractor of adequate size that is equipped with a 3‐point hitch, and can be used to plant on top of a bed, in a furrow, or on a flat seedbed.
