The feasibility of utilizing crownvetch ( Coronilla varia L.) as a grazing species was evaluated in the Piedmont and Mountain regions of North Carolina for 2 years. In 1966, yearling steers grazing for 70 days in the Piedmont gained 0.35 kg/day. The cow‐calf herd in the mountains readily grazed the mature growth. During the 1967 season, 2‐year‐old steers grazed for 154 days in the Piedmont and had an average daily gain (ADG) of 0.58 kg. In the mountains, cows and calves grazed for 70 days after June 28 and had an ADG of 0.41 and 0.91 kg, respectively. Animal performance an crownvetch appears acceptable.
