Abstract A ruler was developed with graduations in area units of cm 2 from the functional relationship Log 10 Leaf Area (cm 2 ) = a + b Log 10 Leaf Length (cm). The functional relationship was established for cotton ( Gossypium hirsutum L.) by sampling leaves twice during the growing season at different stages of morphologic development. Since the equations for the two sampling dates did not differ appreciably, the ruler was developed from the pooled data.
