A two‐year study was made to determine the effects on seedling establishment of placing more than one seed in a seed‐spot or hill. Crested wheatgrass ( Agropyron trichophorum (Fisch. ex Link.) Schult.), pubescent wheatgrass ( Agropyron trichophorum (Link) Richt.) and Russian wildrye ( Elymus junceus Fisch.) were planted at 2 locations in northern Colorado in seed‐spots that contained 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, or 8 seeds per spot. At Fort Collins, the number of seedlings produced per seed planted was reduced as the number of seeds per spot was increased. At the second location, north of Nunn, Colorado, the effects of number of seeds per spot were not consistent.
