Western wheatgrass plants clipped at different stubble heights 4 times at 3‐week intervals produced less oven dry yield of tops, roots and rhizomes than nonclipped plants. The crude protein content per gram was greater in the three plant parts of the clipped plants than in the nonclipped. The soluble sugars and starch per gram were less in the three plant parts of the clipped plants. With the exception of crude protein in the tops, the total yields of crude protein, soluble sugars and starch were greater in the tops, roots and rhizomes of the nonclipped plants.
