Synopsis Volunteer plants constituted a significant portion of the population of red clover seed fields in the second and third years. There was no significant difference in the proportion of volunteer plants in cultivated row‐plantings and broadcast stands. Establishment and survival of volunteer plants may cause changes in varietal purity.
