Synopsis Orchardgrass yields were reduced more by the inadequacy of applications of NH 4 NO 3 only, than were tall fescue or Kentucky bluegrass. Percentage of K in plant tissue decreased where NH 4 NO 3 was the only fertilizer applied. Orchardgrass showed the greatest and Kentucky bluegrass the least response to differences in K. In P content and responsiveness to P availability, the species ranked: orchardgrass>tall fescue>Kentucky bluegrass. Plots receiving only NH 4 NO 3 had higher percentages of crude protein. Tail fescue generally had the lowest percentage of crude protein.
