Synopsis Yield, bolls per pound, and plant height conformed to similar quadratic response curves. All of these characters showed a tendency to increase with higher nitrogen rates up to 150 pounds of nitrogen per acre. Lint percent decreased with higher nitrogen rates in a linear response. Earliness, strength of fiber, and fineness of fiber were not affected by nitrogen treatments. Upper half mean length of fiber increased with the first increment, but remained constant with additional increments of nitrogen.
