Synopsis Light to moderate defoliation of cotton plants by sulphur dioxide had no detrimental effect upon fiber grade, staple length, or ginning percentage. A significant increase in grade and staple length due to fumigation was noted on the first picking. There was no significant difference on the second and third pickings.
